Frequently Asked Questions
Chez Celine : Le Studio – Why this name?
Chez Celine has grown from a 15 year old habit very dear to my heart — capturing the lights, moments, and details that make life beautiful.
I care deeply about delivering unforgettable images that can be passed on for generations — be it of your very special day, your kids, your doggies, or that memorable birthday party. I aim to guarantee an experience that feels very personal, intimate, fun, and comfortable — like home, Chez Celine.
And, the story doesn’t stop on location. I believe that good editing (selecting and retouching) is key to create a truly unique and meaningful results, and all this happens in El Studio!
What is your photography style?
My natural style is basically lots of candids and details — you niece picking up a flower, your grandma embracing your father, touching words in the guest book, or your doggie, in mid-air, looking sideways at the ball! I think of photography as poetry for the eyes. I love to capture a reflection, an accent, a texture, all the little things you might have missed, and I’ve found that these shots are often the ones that make you smile the most.
With time, I have learned to appreciate and include some fun staged shots, and of course the moe formal and mandatory family pictures. I prefer natural light but in the right circumstances I use remote flashes.
Depending on the personality and/or preferences of my client, the final work is in bold colors or grainy and contrasted black and whites.
What kind of equipment do you use?
I use 2 professional grade Canon DSLRs, and my lenses range from 14mm to 200 mm at f2.8. As soon as a session is completed, all files are backed up on an external hard drive.
Why do you shoot all digital, isn’t film better?
No. In fact, I suspect that the people who tell you otherwise are simply scared to upgrade to digital! Shooting digital has many advantages; consider just a few: immediate viewing of the pictures, environmentally friendly processing, and a much lower cost per image!
Do we get the digital files?
Yes. All our packages include all the jpeg files (copied straight from the camera), in addition to the enhanced files (the selected best, with post-processing applied).
How quickly do we get to see our pictures?
I know if it were my photos I’d be dying to see them as soon as possible. And, I like to go into the editing process not too long after the actual shoot, to really be able to translate the energy of the moments. Within a couple of weeks, if my schedule permits it, no longer than 30 days.
Also, I like to invite my local clients to see your pictures for the first time on a large studio screen, together. So we can share our stories, and wrap up our experience. For out of towners and family & friends, the photos will be easily accessible online.
Where are you located? Do you travel?
I am based in San Francisco, in the Mission District. And, yes, I am always delighted to travel!
What do I need to do to book you?
For weddings: contract + 50% retainer. For portraits, pets, and smaller events my booking practices are more flexible.
Do you “hold” dates?
Absolutely, especially for weddings! As soon as I have a client’s contract and 50% retainer, the date is secured.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash and checks are preferred. Credit cards are accepted (with a 2.75% convenience fee charged by Square.com).
Do your prices include Sales Tax?
No, because internet deliveries (emails & downloads) and out of state deliveries of physical items are not taxable. However, the sale and delivery of physical items (CD, prints, albums, etc) are taxable in California. The current sales tax rate is 8.5% for San Francisco.
